This medicine activates movement of large intestine, inhibits water absorption from the intestines
and consequently promotes bowel movement.
It is usually used for various constipations, for support of postoperative defecation, for stimulation of defecation after administration of contrast agent (barium sulfate) and for elimination of intestinal contents before surgery or at pretreatment for colon examination (X-ray and endoscopy).
Efficacy
This medicine stimulates the large intestine to activate intestinal motility and encourage defecation. The onset of effect is after 7-12 hours. It is suitable for "atonic constipation" where bowel movement is low.
Usage
For various constipations: In general, for adults, take 10 to 15 drops (5 to 7.5 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day. For children aged 6 months or younger, take 2 drops (1 mg); 7 to12 months, 3 drops (1.5 mg); 1 to 3 years, 6 drops (3 mg); 4 to 6 years, 7 drops (3.5 mg); 7 to 15years, 10 drops (5 mg) at a time, once a day.
For support of postoperative defecation: In general, for adults, take 10 to 15 drops (5 to 7.5 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day.
For stimulation of defecation after administration of contrast agent (barium sulfate): In general, for adults, take 6 to 15 drops (3 to 7.5 mg of the active ingredient).
For elimination of intestinal contents before surgery: In general, for adults, take 14 drops (7.0 mg of the active ingredient).
For elimination of intestinal contents at pretreatment for colon examination (X-ray and endoscopy):
In general, for adults, take 20 mL (150 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, 10 to 15 hours before the estimated time for the examination.
In any case, the dosage may be adjusted according to your age and symptoms. Strictly follow the instructions.
At pretreatment for colon examination, drink plenty of water.
If you are taking this medicine at home as a pretreatment of colon examination, quick action against adverse drug reactions may be difficult. Do not take it when you are alone.
As this medicine is not an eyedrop, do not apply it to your eyes.
If you miss a dose, for constipations, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule.
For pretreatment for a colon examination, follow the instructions by the doctor.
For other than those cases, take the missed dose as soon as possible. You should never take two doses at one time.
If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
