The roots of Kameda Rokushingan are in China. It is said to be in the early Qing dynasty (mid-17th century). The origin of the name of Rokushingan is the four gods, Seiryu (east), White Tiger (west), Suzaku (south), and Genbu (north), which have been believed for a long time in China. In addition, it is said that the name of these gods was taken and it was called Rokushingan because it was called Rokushin. On the other hand, there is a theory that it comes from Zang-fu.

In Chinese medicine, the five organs (liver, heart, spleen, lungs, kidneys) and the pericardium (entanglement) are collectively called the six organs. It is said that the name Rokushingan was born from the idea that all six viscera have a "god" that controls their functions, and that the "god" of the six viscera is effective.

Japan's pioneer:Kameda Rokushingan

In Japan, "Kameda Rokushingan" is said to be a pioneer. The Kameda family is from Koga-gun, Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture). In the middle of the Edo period, during the Genroku period, I went to Kyoto and set up a store in Gojo Muromachi. For generations, under the name of Izutsuya Ribei, he initially ran a red merchant, but later became a kimono dealer and became a Kago-squeezed merchant.

When Risaburo, the eldest son of Ribei, the sixth generation, accompanied his relative, a potter of Kiyomizu ware, to shingdezhen, China, he got sick in Shanghai. I happened to take the Rokushin gan that I got locally and it got better soon, so I decided to spread it in Japan, so I imported the Rokushin gan based on the prescription "Raijikata" and started selling it.

The reputation of the Rokushin gan has grown year by year in Japan, and in 1893 he quit the kimono shop and moved to a drug store. At that time, the Rokushin gan, which was imported from China, contained musk, calculus bovis (cow gallstones), toads (parotid gland secretions of the Japanese common toad), cinnabar, and realgar. Efficacy was described as lung disease, tumor, dysentery disease, etc.

Although it was the Rokushin gan that gradually penetrated in Japan, due to the drug reform in 1900, realgar was designated as a poisonous drug because it is a "mineral whose main component is arsenic" and can no longer be used in general.

Risaburo took this import ban as an opportunity to implement the domestic production of the Rokushin gan. At that time, Izutsuya was named after the kimono shop and was written in red, so I named it "Akai Tsutsuyaku Kameda Rokushin gan" to distinguish it from other Rokushin gan.

Main ingredients of Kameda Rokushingan

The prescription at this time is not clear because there is no record, but the prescription before the war was musk 25%, calculus bovis 13%, bear gall 17%, cinnabar 5%, cinnabar 12%, borneol 3%, pearl 17%, binder 8%. was. In 1973, the use of cinnabar was banned because it was a mercury preparation, and it became the current ingredient with ginseng instead of cinnabar.

Musk deers, one of the main raw materials, are mainly collected from musk deers that inhabit Central Asia and China. Unlike Japanese deer, it is small and has a nocturnal habit, is covered with dark brown hair, and has no horns for both males and females. Musk has a sac near the scrotum in the abdomen of the male and is secreted by the preputial glands in it. The strong scent is a "pheromone" in which a male invites a female, and the amount of secretion increases most during the estrous period in early winter, and the odor reaches its peak.

The Traditional Use and Pharmacological Actions of Musk in Kameda Rokushin Gan

According to chemical analysis, the components of musk are minerals such as sodium and iron, ammonia compounds, amino acids, aroma components Muscone, androstane derivatives, androgen.

The pharmacological actions have been clarified, such as central nervous system stimulant action, respiratory system and circulatory system nerve stimulant action, blood pressure lowering action, androgen-like action, and anti-inflammatory action. "Kameda Rokushin gan" is a heart and gastrointestinal drug whose main component is musk.

"Rokushingan" is not a registered trademark but a generic name, so products with the same name exist all over the country. The effects of the Meiji and Taisho eras are lung disease, stomach disease, heart disease, diarrhea, boil, beriberi, and astonishment. It is said that when the Spanish flu broke out in 1918-19, drug wholesalers lined up at the storefront and bought and sold soba noodles. Also, during the Second World War, soldiers who went to the war often visited to buy.

The current efficacy of "Kameda Rokushin gan" is, of course, not recognized as "all-disease effect", but is limited to "dizziness, shortness of breath, awareness, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal catarrh, food poisoning". The prescription is now immovable. Mainly musk, calculus bovis, bear gall bladder, Bufoto and expensive animal herbal medicines. Currently, it is permissible to substitute other "gallbladders" such as beef gall bladder, but at our company, we stubbornly follow the composition of gall bladder because the composition is still different.

The first generation had the belief that "raw materials are the life of medicine. Drugs are not advertisements, but can be sold with actual effects", so we carefully examine and use raw materials that are still difficult to obtain.
